Northern champions 2002,2003. Home international champions 2003. Spring champions 2001,2003. The Sussex team when represented by Christian and Alex Jones, Felicity Hotston-Jones, Gemma Hawes and Andrew Gledow, remained unbeaten between the periods of July 2001-August 2003! Clocking up something in the region of 13 major titles! Also over that period many pairs titles went two Sussex members. Spring Pairs Champions 2002 Alex and Chris Jones World Pairs Champions 2002 Fliss Hotston-Jones and Chris Jones Spring Pairs Champions 2003 Fliss Hotston Jones and Chris Jones World Pairs Champions 2003 Alex Jones and Andrew Gleadow Other interesting Sussex facts: At the wedding of teammates Chris and Fliss on June 22nd 2002, the top table consisted of all five Sussex riders, Bride and Groom (Chris and Fliss), Best man (Andy) master of ceremonies (Al), Brides Maid (Gem). Sussex are the only team to win the Intercounties Championships twice with the same Five riders and are the only team to win the title 3 times in four seasons Also with the same five riders. Sussex is also the only team to have ever won the cock of the north title and intercounties title in the same season! Alex, Chris and Fliss have all won the World team championship title, Chris and Fliss won with the GB team in Belgium in 1999, Chris and brother Alex won with the welsh team in Fontwell in 2002 and in Kentucky 2003. Andy, Al, Fliss and Chris have all represented their respective countries at the world team championships over the past 3 seasons. Fliss and Andy have both won the Midland Individual Championship title Andy, in 1997, Fliss in 2002; both were riding the talented Laura. Gem's Pony Mizmee only has one eye; she lost her left eye after running into a branch in her paddock, this occurred before the Sussex team bought her. Obviously it hasnt stopped her being a fantastic games pony. Each time the Sussex team won the intercounties they would stay on an extra night in Stoneleigh to celebrate!!! Fliss has bad luck when it comes to pairs and individuals; she has missed two of the last four pairs championships due to injury, and has only competed in one individuals on Laura since their partnership started in 2002. Sussex has won best team on the MGA web awards four times in five years, thanks to all those who voted! The Sussex team had an amazing 6 years together and more important than the winning is the great friendships that were formed although one does compliment the other. Fliss will be riding for Sussex in 2004, although it will be a new gang lets hope there is still some room on the achievements list for a few more titles! |
