Follow: I always loved excitement, so I studied and apprenticed and put my name on an office. But absolutely nobody knocked down my door. A female private investigator seemed so feminine, so I invented a superior, I decidely masculine superior. And suddenly, there were cases around the block. It was working like a charm. Until the day he walked in, with his blue eyes and misterious past and before I knew he assumed Remington Steele's identity. Now I do the work and he takes the bows. It's a dangerous way to live but as long as people buy it I can get the job done. We never mix business with pleasure, well, almost never. I don't even know his real name". These words belong to Laura Holt and this is how every episode of the first season began. Laura was a private investigator who decided to invent a boss in order to gain people's confidence. She shared her secret with Murphy Michaels (another P.I.) and their secretary Bernice Foxe, during the first season and until they both left the show. From the second season to the end of the series the secretary roles was played by Doris Roberts as Mildred Krebs. She ignored the deal between Laura and Remington until the first episode of the fourth season, when she discovered the truth: Her idolatred boss was a real fraud. Despite this, Mildred stayed with them but she became a kind of trainee as P.I. The relationship between Laura and Remington was increasing: they felt attracted to each other but their insecurities didn't let them "cross the line", so the sexual tension was the most attractive thing of the show. After four full seasons, Remington Steele was cancelled due to low ratings. But it was back for three two-hour episodes, to finally end up after Laura and Remington had got married just to avoid him to be departed, during their honeymoon in an Irish castle with a new character between them, a man called Tony Roselli, who wanted Laura to himself. Remington also knew who his real father was and Laura, after doubting, decided to consumate the relationship with Remington after almost five years, at last. |
