The Metropolitan Filipino Ministry (MFM)
was formed in 1983 as part of the Asiamerica Ministry of the Episcopal
Church. Since its inception, the MFM (also referred to as The Fellowship)
has continuously ministered to Filipino migrant families, individuals,
and friends who come and gather to "share and break bread together"
as one Christian family and as a "eucharistic ministry" without walls.
In 1998, the MFM became an official outreach ministry of Good Shepherd.
For several of unchurched members, the Fellowship continues to serve as
a "home-church".
The MFM serves a multi-state area including
Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Maryland,
and Washington, D.C. Although many members are also active in their home
parishes, MFM fulfills their need to gather in community and to connect
with their cultural roots and honor their heritage. It also serves as
a venue to meet visitors and guests from out of the area and overseas.
Over the years, visitors have come from the Philippines, Canada, England,
and Australia and from other states -- California, Michigan, Ohio, Florida,
Hawaii and Washington.
The MFM meets meets monthly every third
Saturday evening. Activities start with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist
and is followed by fellowship and a sumptuous potluck dinner with
a heavy dose of Filipino cuisine. Occassionally, special program accent
the evening festivities.
