Have Magnifying Glass
Will Keep On

Synonymous to Asiamerica Ministry is the name Alfred Pucay who's voice is always at the end of the line when calling the Asiamerica Ministry desk at 815 Second Avenue. On January 30, 2001, a group of colleagues, friends and relatives gathered for a farewell dinner for Alfred during his last day of work.

The Rev. Winston Ching whom Alfred assisted since October 21, 1974, prepared Alfred for retirement equipping him with a magnifying glass, a cross, his name plate and remarked that he spent more hours with Alfred than his wife Florence did. When Alfred goes home from work, Florence, a nurse, leaves for work.

Alfred's immediate plans are to have a long visit int he Philippines. Florence will return after a month while he will return before Easter.

Christina Hing and Peter Ng coordinated the dinner courtesy of EAM Province II and the Asiamerica Ministry. Those who were at the dinner included Florence Pucay, Chistina Hing, Fr. Peter Lam, Inez Saley, Erwin & Cora Killip, DeYong Chan, Sam Cheung, Fr. & Mrs. John Lloyd, Fr. & Mrs. Ninian Kim, Fr. John Allen Shin, Chris Den Blaker, Fr. Winston Ching, Mr. & Mrs. Peter Eng, Blandina Salvador, and of course, the retiree, Alfred Pucay.

Bishop Bob Remembered

At the request of the immediate family of the late Rt. Rev. Robert Longid, Bishop, Episcopal Diocese of Northern Philippines, a celebration of the Holy Eucharist to commemorate his life and ministry took place January 20, 2001, exactly five years to the day he died. The Rev. Winston Ching celebrated and delivered the homily. In his homily, he mentioned that he had worked with Bishop Bob during his early years of ministry. Later in the evening, one of the guests, the Rev. Brian Grieves, Director of Justice and Peace Ministries, ECUSA, mentioned that he too had worked with Bishop Bob at a later period. The coordinators recommended that the offering during the service be designated to the Bishop Robert Lee Longid Foundation. To end the evening's festivities, Compline was led by Fr. James Kollin.
