DeBox it is not designed to be over-powerful but to be usable and slim enough, and keep the resource usage low for your favorite programs. Different from the majority of desktop environments, it does not tightly integrate every component but use external programs So it's just a mix of various Linux programs (Awn, Openbox, Pcman File manager and tint2) that create a new lightweight, fast and i think beautiful desktop environment. And is GPL...
DeBox or DeBoX is Debian + openbox (or *box).
Test DeBox in various Linux distros, send your feedback and your improvements to giorgos1971(at)libero.it. At the next DeBox release (1.3) will be included every good idea. Art works (wallpaper, logos, icons etc) are also welcome.
Few tips for 1.2 version.
Use DeBox with Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.1 (“lenny” Release).
The basic file is the /usr/bin/DeBoX that handle every aspect of this desktop. Edit it and make your hacks... (for example change xcompmgr to “xcompmgr -cCfF -t-5 -l-5 -r4.2 -o.55 -D6”, activate screenlets, put conky etc.)
Sometimes (Debian clones) the very first time that you login at the DeBox desktop you must logout to full activate the DeBox desktop. The openbox menu is active at the beginning (right click and “Exit”) so... use it. In the second login you can deactivate it from the pcmanfm options menu (Edit>Preferences>Desktop>Show Wm menus...).
In some experimental versions of awn there is a problem with quit applet. If you chose to logout from Debox with “awn quit applet” you can put the line “pkill -u <you_username_here>” at the preferences menu (right click on the icon) or use the ”openbox --exit”. Don't put the “pkill” if you are root.
Once you install it you have a dock that you can put every application that you need (just go to /usr/share/applications and then drag and drop the application in your dock).
If you use a nvidia card put this lines at your /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "enable"
EndSection
If you have a ATI video card see the site of Compiz http://www.compiz-fusion.org/ (use it also for the nvidia cards).
Relax and be ready for the DeBox Desktop...
