My Writing: Pros and Cons
Over the years as we begin to write more and more essays I have discovered that I HATE WRITING ESSAYS! While I have many great thoughts, I just can’t seem to put the down on paper in an orderly fashioned. The intro paragraph such as this is most likely my weakest point and because of this I consider myself a non-writer.
Upon receiving an assignment I usually go though the same process, it all starts with a search for the perfect topic sentence. I will write and erase it many many times until I feel it is right. Once I have tackled that obstacle I take quite some time to find the right ideas and words for the introduction, but from there the essay usually flows. Though I have good ideas I have a couple of weaknesses which causes me from getting them all out. Most of the time it’s because I don’t know how to properly express my ideas in my writing and the other times it is because I write like I talk. This has affected many pieces of my writing. I find that the hardest essays to write are the summer reading essays because I always take a lot of time to find the right words to use and every year I rush my essays and the don’t come out as great as they could. The most successful essay was one that I wrote about my football season in mythology last semester. In that essay I revealed stories about myself and told about experiences. The assignment was to write about a time that you struggled and overcame. I received an A on the essay and was very proud of myself. I have come to the conclusion that writing about yourself is a much easier topic then comparing works because for me I can use the essay like I am talking which make it easier to spread my ideas throughout the paper.
Writing essays has never been my forte. I struggle putting the right word together and finding a creative way to express my ideas. I am very concerned about creating the correct topic sentence that the teacher is looking for. I am hoping that this class will help me overcome my writing weaknesses, help me get ready for college and untimely make me a better writer.
