How long in the tannery business: 20 years

Simplicity is spoken by the company logo and it is dovetailed by the idea of fairness represented by the red square bounding the entire concept. The red square represents not just being steadfast to the ever-changing world of global competition, but being fair and square to all the people employees and staff, distributors, customers working for its success. Underlying white lines are the letters PPI (PROEST Philippines, Incorporated) synonymous with purity of intention in coming up with a dependable product. The green globe green being environment friendly and the globe for global competition, which the company is facing squarely. The focal point of the logo is the shoe the genuine leather shoe that is not geared towards profit orientation, but how useful and friendly it can be to the company, to clients helping those people who never cease to make our world always a better place to live in.

HISTORY STATEMENT OF THE COMPANY

PROEST PHILS., INC. started out as Kristhel Gloves and Leather Products in 1983 with a measly initial capital of three thousand pesos (PHP 3,000.00) employing a single help with two units of sewing machine and hiring two more laborers.

1988 saw the expansion of the company through gradual acquisition of 72 units of industrial sewing machines giving opportunities in distributing its product to sub-contractors in Bulacan and Pampanga.

The insistence of one of its dealers with one of its dealers with an initial order of four hundred (400) pairs of Safety Shoes gave the company its first break in shoe designing and manufacturing. Reluctance on the part of the management was evident due to the lack of expertise, yet; the prodding of its associate prompted the company to give it a try. The first venture of manufacturing industrial footwear was unsuccessful but this did not deter the general manager to get focused and meet his goals. Saved and intensified by reading books and magazines, the company managed to pound its goals in achieving its ultimate dream SUCCESS. Sending out inquiries regarding various footwear materials, doing intensive researches, and conducting observations through the many travels, seminars and trainings contributed in equipping the company with technical knowledge and skills in footwear manufacturing. Its quench for the industrys new technologies and latest machineries never ceased thus, on September 5, 191, PROEST PHILS., INC. was formally incorporated.

In 1994, big bulk of orders from Coca-Cola Bottlers Phils., Inc. was sealed developing in the process the dealer-supplier relationship on a higher level and more professional status. It was also in this year that the company ventured into the production of Childrens Men and Ladies shoes. 1995 was the entrance of San Miguel Brewing Division followed by Manila Water, Magsaysay Maritime Corporation, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company in the elite line of company clients. Now included in its list of corporate accounts are Nestle Phils., Inc., San Miguel Product Packaging Division, International Container and Terminal Services, Inc., Unilever Phils., Inc., National Power Corporation, etc.

True to its motto, PROEST Phils. Inc. was motivated by its vision in making itself globally competitive. Headed by its president, Engr. Donald B. Esterban Jr., the company decided to put up a quality system based on the requirements of ISO 9002 standards. In September of 1999, the company employed the services of Neville Clarke Phils., an affiliate of Neville Clarke U.K., as its consultant.

The company immediately formed technical and steering committees and sent personnel to different trainings and seminars to equip themselves with what ISO is all about. Insights received from this trainings were passed on to the rank-and-file employees.

After two years of rigid trainings, seminars, documentations, system implementations, consultations, and series of internal quality audits performed by its certified IQAs, the company finally submitted for a compliance audit.

On September 6 and 7, Certification International Phils., Inc., an affiliate of Certification International U.K. conducted a two-day compliance audit. Thus, on September 17, 2001, PROEST PHILIPPINES,INC., a member of the Philppine Footwear Federation (PFFI), P Philippine Small and Medium Scale Industies (PHILSMED) and Safety Organization of the Philippines, Inc. was officially notified by the certifying body, the status onf an ISO 9002 certified company in time for its 10th year anniversary.

In December 2002, PROEST Phils., Inc., signed a contract with ISA Majestics Phils., Inc., received yet, another certification from the International Organization for Standardization as certified by Certification International Phils., Inc.

Until recently, another feather on its cap was added when on January 6, 2003, PROEST Phils., Inc. received yet, another certification from the International Organization for Standardization as certified by Certification International Phils., Inc.

In simple ceremonies held at its main plant and headquarters in Caingin, Meycauayan, Bulacan, Certification Internatinal Phils., Inc. President and General Manager, Engr, Donald B. Esteban Jr., the certificate for ISO 9001: 2002, thereby, achieving the status as the first and only ISO certified Footwear Manufacturing company in the Philippines and ranked as truly, a globally competitive company.

Facing the challenge providing quality products and services that are required in the world market, PROEST officials strive hard to be recognized as an ISO 9001:2000 certified company.

ISO 9002 is focused more on system conformity while ISO 9001 gives emphasis on the achievement of real business benefits and relates to the importance of meeting customer requirements through an effective quality management system.

The conversion of PROEST to the new system gives the company the edge over its competitors because of clearly defined business planning that consists of achievable objectives, appropriate measures of success and actions to meet the objectives by providing relevant resources and skills

The systems personnel development process enables to maximize the full potential of every employee. It also monitors and measures performance and ensures effective management processes that contribute to achieving quality products and services leading the customer to satisfaction.

Engr. Esterban, Jr. said that despite prevailing uncertainties in our business climate which affects almost all businesses throughout the world, we, at PROEST, continue to strive to be truly, globally competitive, harnessing talents with their creativity.
