Classification of Leather
There are four kinds of leather commonly used in the leather industry:
- LEATHER: it may be defined as leather if the finish is less than 0.15 mm.
- SUEDE: it is usually abrasion on the flesh side- if it is done on the grain side, it is very fine and called NUBUCK.
- COATED LEATHER: it has a finish greater than 0.15 mm. and less than one third of the total thickness.
- LAMINATED LEATHER: it has a coating greater than one third of the total thickness, but less than half.
