Basic chemicals used in jewelry making

        Chemicals has helped humans in many ways, making our lives comfortable, making our works easier and also chemicals are also used in jewelry making. Due to the decrease value of the Philippine Peso, these chemicals are so expensive because most of the chemicals being used are imported by our local makers of  jewelry and it brings higher expectation to meet the standards of a quality jewelry.

1. Borax - it prevents oxidation being melted. Oxide delays the metal from sticking or getting welded to heating dish and other tools.

2. Boric acid � It also prevents oxidation of the metal being melted.

3. Sulfuric acid � It is used as a pickling solution (10% sulfur and 90 % water)

4. Nitric acid � It is necessary fro cleaning white gold dust. This is also used in processing gold alloy.

5. Saltpetre � It serves as a cleansing agent. This is mixed with metal being melted to remove dirt.

6. Plating solution � It is a surface coating used to improve the durability and beauty of the metal. Jewelry gold is dipped into this solution to coat it with gold film. The process iis also called gold plating.
