  The Colonia Roma is a neighborhood in that the Art Nouveau is present in each one of the elegant details of its houses and buildings, the sames that remember us the splendorous Porfirian days, with fine ladies that it that epoque walk through this zone with beatiful dresses and fantastic hats.  
 

The Colonia Roma district has its origins in the colonial epoque with the stablishment of the farmstead called Hacienda de la Romita, place where is still located a little chapel surronded by small park with a fountain. When were divided the terrains of that landed state in the time of Porfirio Diaz government, began the Colonia Roma, taking the name of the farnstead and Colonia, because in that time the booming middle and upper class of the city, started to leave the Historic Downtown, creating new neighborhoods that were called "colonias", name that was based in the first european assent in America, inasmuch as the new zones were integrally planned since its foundation following the urbanistic canons of the West Hemisfer.

Through the years, some rich families began to build big french style mansions in the zone, lasting to our days excellent examples like Casa Lamm (nowadays an important cultural centre), the Rio de Janeiro Building, The Balmori Building, among several nice constructions that have been declarated cultural patrimony by the National Institute of Fine Arts.

The streets of Colonia Roma are like a piece of Paris in Mexico City, where with every step we can feel the mexican Belle Epoque.

  Very characteristic of Colonia Roma, are also its beatufil streets, like Alvaro Obregon Avenue that has a spacious drinking through lined with trees and in its center there are classic fountains or Orizaba street that comunicate two pretty parks with fountains. Special mention needs Plaza R�o de Janeiro square, where is located one the two unique exact replicas in bronze in the world of the David of Michellangelo, and that is also a space where are realizated expositions with the best of the Contemporary Art.  
  When you visit Colonia Roma dont forget to:
  • Visit the Casa Lamm Cultural Centre and appreciate its art expositions.
  • Go over Avenida Alvaro Obreg�n.
  • Walk through Plaza R�o de Janeiro park.
  • Visit the Temple of the Holly Family.
