Context:
The Mexican Muralist Movement was a tradition that started in 1910-20's (1913) around the time of the revolution that overturned dictatorship. The movement artist leaders were Jose Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera, and David Alfaro Siqueiros and they were called "Los tres grandes" (The Big three). They believed the Mexican art should represent the life in Mexico honestly, support values of the revolution, and the Mexican identity, as well as a broader knowlege of the Mexican people's pre-Columbian past.
Los tres grandes believed that art was the highest form of human expression, therefore it was a key force in social revolution. Though they made large scale murals and sculptures, the murals weren't received positively which forced the artists to move to the US to make art there.
