| Excavations in Mexico have yielded masks dating from 6000 BC. Prehispanic history uncovers evidence that masks were used to cover the faces of dieties and people were sacrificed wearing masks and costume. Masks were worn during the Aztec empire and employed during a wide range of dances. The XVI century and the Spanish invasion saw an introduction of many dances with masks into the new world promoting christian faith and recounting biblical events. | ||||||||||||
