| Netherlands is one of the European countries I've been to ... the others are Austria, Czech Republic, England, France, Hungary, Italy, Germany, Poland and Swizterland. Other countries I've visited outside of North America are China and South Korea. Although I might get motion sickness when I go on long plane rides, it hasn't lessened my love of travelling. I hope to visit many other parts of the world in the future! Oboe is an instruemtn I used to play ... I learned it for a few months in P. 4, but then I switched to clarinet. I kept playing clarinet all through high school, but after that, since I don't have my own, I haven't played it much. If I were to learn another musical instrument, I'd pick a Chinese instrument, like gu-zheng or er-hu or pi-pa. : ) Piano is an instrument that I've been playing for most of my life ... since I was 6 years old actually. I think it was common in H.K. for parents to send their kids to learn piano ... I suppose I enjoyed it when I was small. During high school, I had more excuses to not find time to practise, and for some years, I was practising just for lessons and RCM exams ... quite frankly, I didn't enjoy it very much. : | In university, I had even less time to practise, but maybe because of that, I began to appreciate it a lot more. : ) Sometimes, I wish that I've put more effort into it earlier ... but I guess it's all part of the journey ... I'm now working towards the ARCT Performer's exam. Quebec City was where I spent most of the summer in 1999, and where I had a very fun and enriching experience! : ) That summer, I went on the Summer Language Bursary Program for 5 weeks. It was my first time being away from home for that duration. I stayed in Universite Laval's rez. I took 3 French courses at the university, plus there were many activities and trips to join after class and on week-ends. The profs and animateurs / animatrices were great too! I had so much fun there ... and I was improving my French at the same time! Rafting is the most adventurous thing I've done. The first time I went was when I was in Quebec for the French program. The most memorable thing was cliff-jumping ... all along, I thought I wouldn't do it, but somehow, when our raft parked near the cliff, I felt very ready to try taking the plunge ... I never found out how high that cliff was, but it did feel long when I was free-falling into the water below. : D The second time I went rafting was summer 2002. I think the rapids were bigger and faster at this place. I also went with a bigger group of friends, so it was more fun! The most mermorable thing that time was ... I fell off the raft : D Sleepy is my nickname (another one?!). The Mew Mi's with summer birthdays have one of the Seven Dwarfs nickname: Elena = Bashful, Janet = Grumpy, Ka Ying = Sneezy, Lynn = Dopey, Pauline = Doc, Tina = Happy, Wendy = Sleepy. TCMC (Toronto Chinese Methodist Church) was where I was baptized, and where my wonderful family of BASICs (brothers and sisters in Christ) is! Lord, make my life a prayer to You University of Toronto is my school! I also worked there for 2 summers, doing research at the Laboratory of Applied Surface Thermodynamics. That's also the research work in which I, as the secondary author, had my first paper published! ViXS Systems is where I did a 16-month internship placement as an Associate ASIC Designer. I had a great working and learning experience there! Wedy is my pet bear. : ) I started keeping him when I was in Gr. 10. He's soft, cuddly, friendly and very "GWhy". : D Like me, he loves Vitasoy and ice-cream. : 9 XO (Bad Badtz Maru) is NOT a character that I like, but he somehow finds his way into many conversations that Mew Mi's have : P I do like Winnie the Pooh (though not as much as Garfield : P). I like his friends too: Tigger, Piglet and Roo. Yoga is a relaxing fitness program that I've tried a few times, but I prefer doing pilates or step classes. I'm now trying to learn tennis. Zhang Hui Yan is my Chinese name ... in Mandarin (pin yin). |
