English Grammar is a course that I was looking forward to taking
this semester. I have always wanted to be able to fully understand
grammar for many different reasons. I have always wanted to be able to
know all of the different grammar rules and to be able to explain why something
is wrong grammatically and to be able to explain how to correct grammar
errors. I feel that I was cheated in high school because grammar
was not included in any of my English classes. I know that in order to
master any language you have to continually research and study the language.
One of the main things that I have learned in this semester's grammar class
is that the English language is very difficult to learn. I have been introduced
to many different aspects of grammar that I did not even know existed until
this semester. I feel that this class should be broken up into
two different sections and that it should be taught for a full year instead
of one semester. It seems like everything that we were suppose to
learn was all put together. We did not take enough time with each
individual subject so that we would feel comfortable enough to know that
we had learned everything that we needed to. I know that dividing
this class into two sections would benefit the professor and the students.
English Grammar is a class that is required for English Education majors.
I know that if I were graduating this year I would not be fully prepared
to teach the subject of English Grammar. I do not feel that I am fully
comfortable with everything I need to know in order to teach high school
students grammar. I think that English Grammar is very interesting and
I enjoyed the class discussions that we had in class. I know that I will
continue to study the English Grammar book and the grammar guides that
each student completed for the class. Taking this class has helped
me to develop a greater interest for the English language and has made
me want to study it further.
