In The Oregon Trail, you run a wagon train from the east heading west to start a new life in Oregon. To do this you first have to select an occupation. There are plenty of occupations to choose from in the game, but when I played it as a kid I always selected the doctor occupation because the occupation can cure diseases that might occur during the game. After you select an occupation, you buy supplies and then travel on the trail to Oregon. Since this game takes place in the late 1800's, the tral is not that easy. You have to be concerned about a number of things including the health conditions of the wagon members and especially food and supplies. you can get food and supplies at shops on the trail but you can get free meat by hunting wildlife (which is one of the fun things about this game). The whole piont of the game is to try to survive a trail to Oregon without getting killed by disease or other causes. Also when you are near the end, and you have to decide between a toll and and going down a river, take the river, it's free and it's a fun mini-game. The game is fun and educational, but if you play the game multiple times it does get repetitive. This game is a classic Mac. game and it's worth for (or at least its sequels).
