The inmates of a penal colony on Elba 2 took over by Garth of Izar, former Star Fleet Captain who has acquired the power to change his shape at will. Garth wants the Enterprise and tries to trick Kirk and Spock into getting him on ship. He acts like Gov. Cory, Spock, Kirk, threatens them with death, everything he can think of. Spock finally figures out who is the real Capt. Kirk and who is Garth by 'knowing' Kirk's concern for the ship.
