A party beams aboard the U.S.S. Defiant, lost for 3 weeks and found
adrift in space. The crew, all dead. The Defiant is caught in an spacial
interphase between alternate universes, and although Spock et al beam back
safely, Kirk stays behind and becomes trapped in the other universe, adrift
in space also. The Tholians accuse the Enterprise of trespassing into their
space and begin weaving an energy web around the starship. Spock is thrust
into command with McCoy nipping at his heels the whole way.
Tholians: Spider-like, surreal. Known to the federation but probably not aligned with them. Known for their punctuality.
Territorial Annex of the Tholian Assembly. located near an area of spacial interphase
Spacial interphase: a weak area of the fabric of space, areas of other universes overlap at points.
murderous fury: caused by molecular structure of the brain tissue distorting in spacial interphase and what killed the crew of the Defiant.
Engery field created by the Tholians like a web unknown to Federation technology
Theragan Derivative- Looks like Tang, nerve gas used by the Klingons, used as an antidote to the interphase's effects.
Tri ox compound- injected into Kirk to relieve oxygen deprivation
Quotes:
'Bones. Can you tell me what these people died of?" Kirk
"I'd say these people killed each other.'McCoy.

"It should." McCoy.

Blooper: When chekov goes berzerk, he's screaming but the video shows his face blank, not screaming.....editor was asleep.
This is perhaps one of the most dramatic and heart rending episodes
in trek. Even after 30+ years, when Kirk is brought back, brings tears
to these tired old eyes:) One of my personal favorites.
