The Enterprise proceeds to Platonius in response to a distress signal, and what they find are a race of people who have based their society on the philosophers of ancient Greece. The difference is that they have developed telekinetic abilities which they use to control their jester, Alexander, who has Acondroplastic dwarfism. (That's why he doesn't also have telekinetic powers. They insist Dr. McCoy stay behind to tend to them should they get ill. Kirk refuses to allow this so they force Kirk, Spock, Uhura and Nurse Chapel into humiliating situations. Additionally, they were basically the catalyst behind television's first inter-racial kiss.

Eugenics program bred 38 persons with long lives (2000 years) and recuperative powers but susceptable to sepsis. They received the 'powers' from the native food and water.

Kirk and Uhura make a nice couple, as does Chapel and Spock. That's about the only redeeming feature of this episode in my opinion...not one of my favorite episodes, to say the least.
