When a planet is threatened by an asteroid (almost as large as the Earth's moon), a landing party (Kirk, Spock, McCoy) beams down to study the population. They find a primitive people exactly like American Indians. Kirk accidentally falls into an obelisk monument and gets a high tech zap which causes amnesia. Unable to remember who he is, the people decide he is a god. Referring to himself as Kirok, he takes a bride in Miramanee, having almost forgotten his former life, although plagued by dreams. When the planet is rocked by a terrible storm, Kirok is expected to 'save the people' but doesn't know how. The people are furious and stone him and his wife. Mean while racing against time,  Spock and McCoy battle wits to deflect or destroy the asteroid. Spock figures things out and activates the obelisk which is really a asteroid deflector.This episode is marked by a particularly tragic ending in which Miramanee is killed, along with her and Kirk's unborn child.

The planet (unnamed)-duplicate of earth but it's improbable that it evolved so similarly due to its age and size and compostion, half way across the galaxy. Inhabited by American Indians (navaho, Mochican, Delaware), compaired to Atlantis or Shangrila.
