Lieutenant Mira Romaine, who Scotty has fallen in love with, is possessed by the lights of Zetar, a cloud-like being that is actually a group of non-corporeal life of a now-dead race. Enjoying physical existence again, they decide to keep their human host at the expense of her own life.
