Synopsis:
Thom Layton diverts the Enterprise to his base planet, Planet Q, with a lie that he has discovered a revolutonary synthetic food source. While on the planet Kirk attends a play performed by a traveling Shakespearean troupe led by Anton Karidian. Layton insists that Karidian is actually Kodos the Executioner, presumed dead, former governor of Tarsus IV 20 years ago who masterminded the deaths of half the people (4000+) on an Earth Colony when it seemed that they were treathened with starvation. No sooner had these deaths (which included members of both Kirk and Leighton's families) been carried out than the Federation supply ships arrived. Kodos history ends and Karidian's career begins roughly at the same time. Layton is found dead so Kirk has agreed to provide transportation to the Benecia Colony for the actors on the sheer chance that Karidian and Kodos are one and the same to give Kirk time to investigate. The noose tightens around the man's neck when Riley is poisoned, a phaser is found overloading in Kirk's quarters and a voice identification matches Karidian to Kodos. It turns out that Lenore has been picking off the witnesses one by one as they moved through the galaxy giving plays.(copied off the net with a lot of editing)

Benecia Colony-little known except this was the next destination of the company of actors.
