Ashigaru Glossary
This comic is based on historical fact.�� Some characters existed, and some events really occurred, but these are mostly used as backdrops for a work of fiction.� Authenticity was attempted for all aspects of the story, down to the actual sword style used by Takamoto.
Here is a glossary for some of the Japanese terms used in this story:
ISSUE 1
Ashigaru:� Foot soldiers, mostly conscripted peasants brought into service by command of their local Daimyo.  Their main weapon was the naginata and they wore light armor into battle.  Literally means "light feet".
Metsuke:�� Similar to a spy.  This person would be used for espionage.
Musha Shugyo:��� A Warrior pilgramage.� Taken to expand  martial arts skills, or to improve ones discipline. 
Sengoku Jidai:�� The Age of the Country at War.
Takamoto:  Better known to history as Tsukahara Bokuden Takamoto, born December 1490.
ISSUE 2
Daimyo:   Literal meaing:  "Great Name" A feudal lord, similar to a British Lord, who governs land and controls vassals.
Shogun:  A military governer.  Appointed by the emperor.
Sohei:  a warrior monk or warrior priest.
Yojimbo:  A bodyguard.
