The house was affectionately
named..Shin-EnKan,
which translates into
english as... "home of the
faraway-heart".

It would be one of Bruce
Goff's few chances to
work with an unrestricted
budget.
Many of his homes were
built from rather unusual
materials, often scavenged
from unconventional
sources.
Shin-EnKan would be no exception, but sometimes cost seemed to be of little concern.
The emerald crystal-like material seen above was salvaged from a glass-firing furnace.
The roof was anodized aluminum, and the material  on the vertical exterior was bark...
...stripped from a rare tree that grows only on the continent of Africa.
