April 9,2005 Gold Line Eastside Update

For the communities East of Los Angeles, an historic thriving area for many generations and many ethnicities, the time has come for a new and vital transportation link to bring a new age of access.

Now, after 12 years of defining and refining the method of connectivity, construction has begun on that vital link - the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension project. Metro issued a Notice of Award on June 1, 2004 to the Eastside LRT Constructors, following the execution of the Full Funding Grant Agreement. On July 1, 2004 the contractor was issued a Notice to Proceed and an official groundbreaking took place on Saturday, July 17, 2004.

Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension features include:

6 miles of Light Rail Service
Eight stations (two underground)
Twin tunnels (1.8 miles long) under Boyle Heights
Faster, easier access to 73 miles of Metro rail system
Estimated ride time of 17 minutes between Union Station and the Atlantic station
Operating hours from 4:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Budget of $898.8 million
Forecasted to open late 2009

Order Status: 30 Buses to be delivered by June of 2005 for use on orange line. The rest (170) buses to be delivered ny June 2006.


These buses will be used on Metro's high ridership lines and as well as the new BRT Bus Rapid Transit line "Orange Line" which will strech from North Hollywood Metro Redline Station out to the Valley which is excpected to open in June 2005. visit

MTA (METRO) has put the new 450X line into serivce From Downtown L.A. Union Station to Artiesa Transit Center via 110 Freeway with 2 stops downtown and one at Harbor Freeway Station to connect with green line trains and buses (street level- 45,81,381,120,214,620,745, Torrance 1,2 Gardena 1) and (Freeway Level 446,447, CM448, and 550. the new X lines feature MTA's EXPRESS Paint Scheme which is Blue and Silver. New Rapid Lines on Beverly Boulevard 714 and new Metro Rapid on Vernon Line 705. More lines within the next couple of months.
