The Metroboard is equipped with a brake -- the rider can slow or stop by pressing the brake pedal on the side of the board.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Metroboard's brake:
--Does it wear the wheel?
The brake creates a slight wear on the wheel when it is applied, but with normal use, the wheel should not need replacement for a year or more. Skateboard shops only sell wheels in quantities of four, but by contacting me at [email protected], you can purchase them individually, for $6/wheel (a set of four will probably cost you $30+ at a retail skate shop).
--Doesn't the skateboard try to turn when you brake on only one wheel?
No. The force of the front two wheels on the ground prevents the skateboard from turning.
--I've noticed that some of the Metroboards have the brake pad on the right side, and some have the pad on the left. What's the difference?
The Metroboard can be ridden with either foot at the rear of the board, and the brake pad can be pressed with either heel or the toe of the rear foot. Each rider will have a personal preference, and one can't really tell which they prefer without actually trying it. If you want to order one that is premade, you will have to adjust to riding whichever brake design you decide to order. If you are unsure, boards can be made to special order with brakes on both sides, at no extra cost. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, it may be possible for you to try out the brake designs before you actually purchase. Contact me at [email protected] for details.
