Hebburn Metro Swimming Club was formed in 1967 the same year
Hebburn Pool opened and has had several County swimmers.
In 1980 the council brought in a professional coach and South Tyneside
Club was formed with many of our swimmers moving to the new club.

ALL OF OUR TEACHERS AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS
ARE VOLUNTARY.

We teach children to swim from an early age and then we try to improve their techniques, they progress from the Learner Pool into the Main Pool. Shirley Jobling is our main teacher on the Small Pool and with her help the children learn to swim in a happy atmosphere.

We have  a "learn to swim" scheme based around the A.S.A awards, Copies of which will be available for your perusal. Our main aim in the learner pool is to produce competant swimmers, who can progress to the main pool and onto competitive swimming.

They will remain in the learner pool until they have reached a minimim age of 8 years and if they have reached the standard required for the Main Pool, will  will introduce them gradually to continue with their coaching, Where the emphasis will be changed from teaching to coaching.

Once in the main pool they will be taught all the techniques required for  the competitive swimming. Once the children reach the age of 9 years of age the A.S.A allows them to participate into galas in team events only,
(They are considered to be 9 on the 1st January in the year that they were born). When they reach 10 years they can compete in individual events at graded, open or Northumberland & Durham Championships.

Hebburn Metro usually take part in the Durham and District Junior League, fondly known as the"Diddy League".
This competition takes place from March to May with the teams competing in three galas, with the top six teams reaching a final, which usually takes place in June. At present we are in the third division of this league.

We also like the swimmers to compete in galas as individuals, these usually take place as graded galas ,once they are too fast for graded they can take part in Open Galas.

Where the children are fast enough in their age froup and stroke, they can take part in the Northumberland & Durham Championship gala.

We all pay an Annual Membership fee of 13 single or 40 per family each year.
Membership fees must be paid by 31st January ,or two weeks from application.

The committee  reserves the right to exclude memberships to anyone they desire.

ONLY MEMBERS HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE OR BE MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE
New members are welcome,
Poolside helpers or anyone who could help with Committee duties are always needed, so if you think you could do one of these UNPAID jobs, dont be afraid to enquire.
