i'm having a really hard time writing this tonight. you see, i am giving myself some down time here in the computer lab to read punk planet, do my site, do some 'net based job searching, and just surf around. it's been a while.

problem is that ro wants to get groceries tonight. well, 'tain't a huge problem. just that i could stay here for a long time otherwise.

actually, i guess that my wanting to leave fairly soon is a good thing. :-)

i got some books from the library today. almost all of them are ones i am revisiting, that i have read before. i got e.t. the book of the green planet for rosemary, because it gives more background for our favorite deborah-winger-voiced brown guy. i also got only begotten daughter, waiting for the galactic bus, a kurt vonnegut book, and the next harry turtledove alternate history book.

only begotten daughter follows the second coming of christ--as a woman. includes such cool ideas as the fact that everyone who you say "go to hell!" to actually does.

waiting for the galactic bus is about the origins of the human race as a genetic experiment by drunken aliens. they fucked up and so gave us primitive emotions but a massive capacity for technology. good stuff.

both of these books fall in a category that doesn't have a real genre name, but i would just call god or creation fiction. where are we from? why? did christ exist? does god exist? i loooove books that explore religion as myth and the origin of the human race as something that might be as much a mistake as divine intervention (this doesn't include those left behind books because they are wa-a-a-a-y too preachy). james morrow, author of daughter is a master.

the turtle dove book covers the next in a sage about the south winning the civil war. cool stuff. he's the "master of alternate history" according to book jackets. i agree.

argh. nothing doing on this site tonight. ah well. i guess that's good. it means that my near nervous breakdown last night that i spared ya'll the details about made me feel better.

hey everbody--it's august.

smell ya later.

love,
metraboy
