There is a 17 year old boy named Tenchi Masaki. He lives with his father Nobuyuki and his grandfather Yosho in a house near the Masaki Shrine. Tenchi's life changes considerably when women start dropping into his life.
Now this is where the storyline splits into different universes that run along similar lines with a few minor changes.
In the Tenchi Universe series:
A new character named Kiyone is added.
Ryoko is a space pirate not a demon.
Washu is not Ryoko's mother
