Ulver - 'Kveldssanger' - By C. Diamantis
After their first (and very successful, from an artistic point of view) adventure into the realm of black metal, Ulver decided to show us once again that theyre definitely not an ordinary band. The previous album amazed everyone with its high-quality folk black metal but the band chooses to push the boundaries even further with this release. They do something unheard of for a band of the style, and release a totally acoustic neo-folk album. And remember that this is still 1995 and that this kind of experimentation was not easily accepted by the fans. This is a very melodic album that shows the great love the band has for the traditional music of their country. Their talent ensures that the album will not be a failure and this leads to the creation of a monumental record. Garms vocals are very expressive and full of emotion and he once again proves that he is one of the most gifted singers in the world. The work with the acoustic guitars by Haavard is once again exceptional and it gives to the album a feeling so nostalgic that makes it even more emotional. The choirs and acoustic instruments used in the album are placed in the right places in order to increase the interest of the listener. Kveldssanger is one of those albums which by the music helps the listener create images and landscapes in their mind and this is the greatest strength of the album. Its music is a trip to another world and another age. There isnt much else to tell really about this album. If you like acoustic or folk music you will love it, because its one of the best ever to appear. However, since the site is mostly being frequented by metal fans I must warn everyone that this album has nothing to do with metal, rock or anything remotely electric. As for my sentiments towards this album, just look at my nickname at the message-boardJust perfect Metal Obsessive Grade: 96% |
