Refused - 'The shape of punk to come (A chimercial bombination in 12 bursts) ' - By C. Impey
This is Refused's final album, before their split, and it's also a brilliant one. It's one of my favourites.

"Worms of the Senses/Faculties of the Skull" is a brilliant start, it's spoken introduction building up to an explosive song, especially the 2nd part of the song with Dennus Lyxzen screaming the chorus... 'I TOOK THE FIRST BUS, FROM COCA COLA CITY CAUSE IT MADE ME FEEL ALL NAUSEOUS AND SHITTY!"

The lyrics of all the songs contain strong political messages, liberation, freedom and anti- capitalism being a strong theme throughout. This might scare a few people off, but the music is so good that it will distract you from the lyrical content if needs be.

This album is full of explosive guitars and screaming vocals, with a techno influence, providing a dynamic mix of songs. My favourite songs are "Liberation Frequency", with it's calm versus exploding into repeated choruses with the usual screaming vocals. After this song the best is probably "New Noise", the one track from the album that had a record created for it. "New Noise" shows the raw power of Refused, staying powerful and impacting the entire way through the songs, Dennis once again screaming as loud as he can, loud, dramatic guitars and a good percussion backing to provide foundation to a brilliant song.

I can't go through each the songs describing them as I'd be saying the same things over and over, one thing to take from this is that most of the songs sound quite similar, but because the songs are so damn brilliant it really doesn't matter.

The only song on 'The Shape of Punk to Come" that is drastically different from any other song is "The Apollo Programme was a Hoax", this is a calm, mellow song with strummy guitars and calm, almost spoken vocals with a more melodical edge. This is the weakest song on the album but it does what any good final track should do...easing you away gently, giving you a chance to really appreciate what Refused have accomplished with this album.
