Rage - 'Trapped!' - By J. Korkiamki
Rage have experienced many musical turning points in their career, the first probably being Reflections Of A Shadow, the experimental, a little bit alternative album previous to Trapped!, which goes back to Rages roots a bit, but has taken influence from Reflections, creating a melodic speed/power metal album which is powerful as hell.

Powerful as hell, meaning practically that Trapped! really isnt some kind of horse/sword/steel metal in the vein of Manowar, and doesnt use themes traditionally expected from power metal. The themes are the same as always, and once again, Peavy has made the power of word an artform. Trapped! is full of attitude, feisty and raw power riffing, all of that mixed with Peavys much improved singing voice. The album begins with Shame On You, a double bass drum thunder combinated with oriental rhythms, which proves that the band has changed their style surprisingly much. Solitary Man continues with Rages speed metal side, but still is just right for this album.

While the albums previous to Trapped! seemed to be swarming with limitations of aggression, even with all their good potential, Trapped! knows no limits. You can clearly hear that the band has finally been ready to set themselves free. Trapped! truly traps the listener, and the only weaker song on the album, Difference, doesnt seem to harm the joy of listening at all. Even the Accept cover song Fast As A Shark is quite smooth and very metal.

Trapped! is one of Rages best outings ever, and an album for everyone, who listen any form of metal. There are catchy songs, there are heavy songs with lots of feedback, speed metal songs with style and of course Rages trademark, the fantastic lyrics going through the human mind are there. This was one of the first albums that got me into metal, and I still love it as much as I did then. Fantastic!
