Rage - 'Extended power' EP - By J. Korkiamki
Rages previous full length album Reflections Of A Shadow was in its own way a great album. It hanged in the balance of many different genres and styles of metal, it even brought in a temporary keyboard player, which is quite rare for a band like Rage. Its good to take a breather after that kind of experiment, and Rage decided to enjoy their vacation by putting out Extended Power, a five track EP including one new song, one leftover from the Secrets In A Weird World sessions, one Avenger remake, one song off Reflections Of A Shadow, an instrumental and a hidden track. Woman was made exclusively for this EP, and it really isnt so dashing, its more of a linear and typical speed metal, which doesnt even have that much moshing influence. But I do wonder why the band left the next song Ashes out from Secrets In A Weird World. Its fantastic, its powerful and the vocal lines are awesome. Sometimes when youre drunk enough, you can make strange observations like that the song sounds like Scorpions meeting Manowar (!). Does anybody still remember Rages forefather Avenger and the song Battlefield? Well, it doesnt matter, but the song is on Extended Power, remade as a humor version. The title is very clear, the song is called Bottlefield. An awesome drinking song, in which the true climax is at the end: a little clip of Sonny & Chers I Got You Babe, accompanied by the sounds of tinkling beer bottles. The fourth song is a bit of promotion; the grooving Waiting For The Moon, one of the best songs, in fact, from the mentioned full length Reflections Of A Shadow. The last song on the album is the instrumental Whats Up?, as described by the band, a quick one to warm up your fingers. It really does turn the heat on, when youre playing the song yourself. I have definitely heard the awesome bridge somewhere before, I just cant remember where. There is still a sixth second hidden track on the EP, but I wont reveal more, everyone should find out for themselves. But I have to say, this is definitely one of the best EP accomplishments Ive ever had a chance to hear. Yes, Woman is quite a fill up song, but every other track is splendid, musically and well, of course, lyrically. Extended Power is a part of the series, which Rage has continued a lot during the years. This EP...is a CAPTAIN. Metal Obsessive Grade: 94% |
