Queensrche - 'Q2k' - By J. Korkiamki
The first time I read about the releasing of Q2K, I was... well, impressed. The band, which I had totally abandoned after the disgustingly awful Hear In The Now Frontier, was releasing an album, which was hyped as the bands most metallic and heaviest album since The Promised Land and Operation: Mindcrime. Why wouldnt I be enthusiastic? Well, I made the mistake of buying the damn CD right away, and well, well, well, see how it turned out. I was to realize, that the album hadnt changed a bit compared to the previous one. Or it has, actually, but if possible, only for worse. Before the release of Q2K the first line-up change in Queensrches history took place. The bands heart and soul (if you dont count Geoff Tate), Chris DeGarmo took off. At least someone realized, that you could lose your reputation as a musician in a band like the Queensrche today. Well, the freshman, oh so admired guitarist/producer Kelly Gray is quite a bloke. He was supposed to make the album heavier than the previous album, but noooooo...the guy swims around in grunge more than the other band members altogether. As Sign Of The Times was a magnet for me to get Hear In The Now Frontier, there is also a similar kind of song on Q2K. Sacred Ground is the name of the song. Despite its potential for the benefit of the album, it still definitely isnt one of Queensrches best songs. Q2K is an awful album. If the sounds and music were poor on Hear In The Now Frontier, on Q2K at least the music is completely ruined. The worst thing still is, that the band has no shame, they are even proud of their two latest albums. And if Geoff decides to continue Mindcrimes story with this kind of musical disgrace, the band will also be accused of f*cking up a true cult. I used to love this band. Nowadays they're probably one of the most ridiculous bands Ive ever heard. Metal Obsessive Grade: 15% |
