Queensrche - 'Empire' - By J. Korkiamki
Empire, Queensrches fourth full length album is filled with just the kind of music which is nowadays referred to as progressive rock. Operation: Mindcrimes metallic shield has broken despite a few songs. Overally Empire is a ROCK album. So, a good or a bad thing? Everyone has to decide by themselves.

Empire isnt actually a concept album, but there is a certain shade of despair in every song; almost every one of them speaks of loneliness or destruction of human self confidence in one way or the other. The album musically isnt depressing, in any way gothic or stiff, the relaxed kind of playing comes with a good mood, and it takes care, that the album doesnt fit to be a soundtrack for being p*ssed off. This should at least give off the fact that not all of the guys and gals who liked the previous albums, will necessarily like this one.

The rock ballads Jet City Woman and Another Rainy Night (Without You), and also the acoustic Silent Lucidity take care of the slower and soothing side of the album, and the heavier The Thin Line and Empire keep the older fans at bay. Although Empire is quite a different Queensrche album, it holds cards in its sleeve, one of them being the fact, that the guys musical side was still in great shape. You can still clearly hear this is Queensrche, because the guitar and vocal styles havent changed. Although Empire doesnt contain new Eyes Of A Stranger's or Screaming In Digital's, its a good addition to your Queensrche collection, if you have luckily stumbled on this older, and oh, so much better material. The words 'taking for granted' dont fit together with Empire at all, so before you finally decide the place of the album in your heart, you should listen to it a couple of times more.
