NoFX - 'Punk in drublic' - By M. Freeman
NOFX have long been in the music business with an eye to prove that punk is most certainly not dead. And prove they do, with riot-inducing speed and unmatched ferocity that the admittedly watered down punk of Greenday and The Offspring were producing in the early 90's. Arguably containing some of the bands best work, this album features their trademark humour laden with youthful post-punk rebellious lyrics and power punk riffs. With most tracks at under two minutes long, this is how punk should be, speed-hardkore guitar playing joined with the distinct vocals which not only have a fair amount of meaning, they also pack a punch as far as humour goes. Whilst many tracks are repetitive, some in the extreme, on the most-part they stand up well and more than hold their own when pitted against other successful acts in the genre such as Rancid, who will no doubt appeal to those who like this album. The light-hearted aura is kept up throughout the record, whilst the band manage to tackle some of America's various problems, noteably focusing on society. 'Don't Call Me White' is evidently a focus on racial abuse, and whilst the feel is still kept upbeat and fun, the content has meaning which will never feel behind the times. This legendary album is covered in tracks with fast drumming, muted guitars, and simple basslines from start to finish. The fact that the whole disc is very simplistic, it is still raw, a good listen, and most importantly, it's simplicity epitomises it's, and the bands, rightful position in the power punk genre.
