Mob - '...And this was a good day' - By C. Impey
Mob are a band signed to Danish indie label Alternate, making experimental rock music. The vocals provided by Morten Haaber are basic but enough to portray the emotion coming from the lyrics. The musical backing is heavily relied on guitars, with sensible drumming and bass lines. The music won't overwhelm you but is enough to keep you listening.

"Nothing Yet Part One" is an interesting start to an interesting album. The guitars and drumming start off at a frantic pace but still maintain the 'light' sound of the band. The vocals at first sound a little weak and quiet, lost amongst the music, but come the first verse of the song they soon become clear and more distinguishable, with a delicate echo effect (whether this is deliberate or not I don't know). At about 2 minutes into the song, there's an eerie quietness, followed by an instrumental session which carries on until the end of the track. And at a hefty 9 minutes long in total, the 7 minutes without any vocals become tedious only livened by the occasional change of pace. The song ends disappointingly, you wait and wait for something to build out of the instrumental and the song just fades out slowly after just over 9 minutes.

"Acoustic" is exactly what you expect, an acoustic track starting with gentle strumming on the guitar, joined by delicate vocals. This is a nice calm song, the vocals sound a little weak in parts but generally it's very good. The track keeps the same pace throughout and gently ends with it's final chord after nearly 4 minutes, which seems like the perfect end to a song like this.

"Dreams Distorted" is a song backed with a good guitar melody. The vocal style is also different, Haaber choosing to use a spoken style of vocals mixed with his delicate singing in short parts. This is one of my favourite songs from this album, providing a good mix of melody, and a nice mix of sounds and tempo.

"Night Comes To Save You" shows Mob's musical diversity by encorporating a violin into the song, this is even more calm and gentle than "Acoustic", and fits well after "Dreams Distorted". The vocals on this song are placed brilliantly, generally very quiet allowing the music to take the front seat. This song fades out with the violin becoming stronger causing the other instruments to act as backing music.

The tempo speeds up once again with "Fake Happiness", only to slow back down on "Progress" and "Contr Toi", whilst "Noughiphiet" picks up an expectantly faster pace again.

The album finishes with "Nothing Yet Part Two", despite being 'Part Two' to the opening track it's in no way similar. This is a much slower track, but sadly it also grows tedious at a huuuge 12 minutes and 55 seconds long! But even so, it's probably the ideal track to end an album like this. Overall this is a very good record.
