Psychotic Waltz - 'Bleeding' - By C. Diamantis
Its a real pity that not many metal fans know this band, a band that no longer exists and is very difficult to get to know now, due to the fact that their albums are very hard to find these days. This is the fourth and last studio album the band released before they split up (a live album and a compilation with live and unreleased tracks were also released after the splitting). Their music is categorized by many as progressive metal but their music has nothing to do with the overly technical bands which write 20 minute long songs filled with solos and a tendency to face music with a look-how-fast-and-technical-I-can-play (I like many of these bands but a few overdo it sometimes). Bleeding contains relatively short songs where its the music and feelings that matter and not the technique of the musicians. The first thing that you may notice in this album is that all the songs have a trippy and psychedelic feel to them. That alone sets them apart from the rest of the progressive metal scene and its what puts them in a league of their own. Every member gives his best in order to complete this masterpiece. Each song has a unique feeling, but they all blend together to a perfect whole. Another thing that stands out in this album is the lyrics. I dont know if I have seen anywhere else lyrics that are so abstract and difficult to understand and this is their beauty. Youre going to spend hours trying to understand the lyrics, but I believe youll finally understand that their meaning is the one WE give them and this seems to have been the goal of the band. Every song is extremely good, but Id like to make a special mention to my favorite song from the album, My Grave. The acoustic and electric guitars and the flute of the singer Buddy Lackey create an atmosphere that is overwhelming. Its the creative peak of the album and proof of why this is such a great band. Another thing that amazes in the album is its artwork. Created by Travis Smith (a very well known artist who has created the covers and artwork of many bands) is every bit as psychedelic as the music of the album. With no hint of exaggeration I honestly believe that its the best artwork Ive seen with a record. I think its time you do yourselves a favour and learn this band. Their music is the soundtrack for a dream, be it of the day or the night. It makes me sad to see bands like Psychotic Waltz stop creating music because very few seem to care about them. No description by myself would really do them justice, so try to listen to them and let music speak for itself Metal Obsessive Grade: 95% |
