Pitchshifter - 'www.pitchshifter.com' - By M. Freeman
Pitchshifter have been around for a considerable amount of time - since 1989 or so, to be precise, in which time have changed their style dramatically, notably between previous album 'Infotainment?' and this release. Starting out as a more death/industrial orientated band and becoming techno-metal was an intricate process taken by the band and even these dramatic changes were done with style. The sound of the band is as refreshing as ever, a great blend of crushing guitars and upbeat techno basslines layered with numerous samples, the sound is that of a futuristic and modern feel.

Politically powered lyrics are a noticable feature, with as extreme focuses as conspiracy theories and the rubbish that the government is feeding to society is also a large part of the bands music. If you're not all that interested in the lyrical content, the music should give you a reason to write home and tell of how good this album is, though I'm sure the lyrics will eventually show their real meaning after a few attentive listens. Tracks such as 'Genius' and 'Microwaved' are electro-powered rockets of music and are among the most classy of what's on offer, with 'Please Sir' containing one of the most obvious political views, the subject of there not being enough black 'superheros'.

Pitchshifter are a hard band to label, so they are best left described as unique, as that is what this album is. There are endless plus points of the album, but it has to be said that it can get a little tedious as the style becomes slightly tedious, but if you enjoy it first time around, there is no doubt that you will return to it again, and again in the future. There is barely a dull moment on this album and it is a great change from traditional industrial with it's extra blasting drum beats and speedy guitar and basslines. All in all, a very solid album which redefines Pitchshifter's status in the world of music, the future is looking very good indeed.
