Hypocrisy - 'Hypocrisy' - By P. Alander
If you like the �wall of sound� effect, if you prefer the vocals to be screamed and if you like atmospheric metal, then you should get this one. The record is amazingly produced (what else would you expect from Peter T�gtren) and everything seems to be in it�s right place, it can sound a little odd on the first listen but it grows, I mean it GROWS. The opening track �fractured millenium� gives you a taste of what to expect from this record, so it works as a some sort of a intro. The next track is named �Apocalyptic hybrid� and that�s what you get, one of the two faster songs in this record, it�s pretty basic melodic death metal and probably the first one to catch your ear. The third one �fusion programmed minds� continues the melodic death style with surprisingly soulful vocals. But it�s the fourth track that does the trick, named �elastic inverted visions� (see a pattern forming here?), for the first time I heard it, I was thinking �what the f*ck�, but after I�ve listened the record more and more it has become one of my favorite songs in the record, there are more songs like this one, a little slower and melodic and with tons of atmosphere than in your average Hypocrisy songs. On track seven �paranormal mysteria� it was quite a shock to hear Mr.T�gtren to actually sing! But it�s not bad, not bad at all, the B part is surprisingly epic. Track 8 �Time warp� is the another faster song on the record, in which Peter manages to sound dubiously Tom Araya'ish, Very fast and intense. The record can be quite a shock for a death metal fan but I hope you give it a chance, and who knows maybe it�ll become one of your favorites, it is for me. Metal Obsessive Grade: 90% |
