Drep - 'Doctor' - By C. Impey
"Doctor EP" is Drep's second release. The Icelanders make a different kind of music to everything else that I've heard. The best way I can describe it is hardkore mixed with some elements of doom metal. So perhaps think of a mix between something like Stampin' Ground and Neurosis maybe.

"Crawl" is the opening track on the EP. The verse's are harsh and rough edged in a hardkore style, very powerful. The chorus sung in a much lower pitch (possibly the lowest I've ever heard) in more of the style of many doom metal vocalists. The 2 vocal styles fit wonderfully. This is a good track but I feel that if the track continued for much longer than it does, this song might get a bit dull and tedious. The song fades out well with a good ol' growl.

"Salvation" in contrast, vocally, is the reverse of "Crawl". The lower 'sung' vocals taking the listeners attention, with the 'growled' vocals breaking it all up, providing some variety. The guitar riff in this song is powerful and supports the vocals brilliantly throughout the whole song.

"Touch" is a faster song, the vocals are a bit worse on this track compared with the previous two, but they fit the song well. The structure of this song is very basic, the lyrics are pretty much repeated a few times. This does become slightly tedious after a while seeing as the songs are slightly longer than most at five and a half minutes.

The initial vocals on "Friend" are quite messy and extremely hard to distinguish. It just sounds like one long growl, but you can tell it isn't by the way the pitch changes, personally I don't like this but it might appeal to some people, maybe black metal fans. But once you get past this, it's a brilliant song to conclude a brilliant EP.

You're probably thinking why did I say it's brilliant when I've criticised the vocals so much in the last 2 songs...well it's too easy to criticise, and when the whole package is put together it is simply amazing.
