Bad Religion - 'No control' - By B. McCann
Bad Religion always seemed too intelligent to really fit into the punk rock genre. Yet Greg Graffins gruff, creaky voice and seemingly impossible to understand, political lyrics still seem to thrill. Although having 15 tracks with the largest lasting 2:47 minutes and the shortest being 43 seconds long, the whole album feels as though its a very long, 26 minute song.

Change Of Ideas bursts in with a quick drumbeat and explodes with guitars and Gregs great voice. Coming to an abrupt end, Big Bang comes in where Change Of Ideas left off. This song is much faster that the previous one its practically the same.

No Control is again the same as the previous expect for the fact that there is some nice palm muting. The band also sings similar to a choir later on in the song, which makes a nice difference.

Sometimes I Feel Like is one of the songs I really enjoyed. With a simple riff to begin with Greg says sometime later, sometimes it feels like then the guitars start sliding and the drums pound out random beats which sounds really good when put together.

Automatic Man is back to traditional punk rock. Just an average song really. Nice guitars and singing, nothing special.

I Want To Conquer The World opens with a great sounding solo and then follows onto the vocals and a guitar/drum riff. After every verse comes a near impossible solo then the chorus that sounds great on its own, showing that Greg can sing really well.

Sanity is much different from the other songs. It starts with a strange upward riff and then it repeats this with the vocals. It isnt the usual punk pace, being quite normal. Youll find yourself nodding your head at the drums mostly but the rest of the song is great. It also contains a couple of cool sounding solos and a great choir bit at the end of the song by the rest of the band.

Henchman completely changes from where Sanity left off. Everything bursts in at once leaving you a bit dazzled. Theres a mysterious change of pace as everything quickens up, which does take some skill to do. Theres some great singing near the end of this song aswell.

It Must Look Pretty Appealing didnt appeal to me. Its just the usual punk song.

You is by far my favourite song on this album. It would sound good as a song to be played in a film when someone has only two minutes to disarm a bomb before it explodes...Dont ask :)...anyway it starts with a great sounding guitar riff and then a drum roll. The lyrics start and then the drums give the ocassional roll every so often. The guitars sound fantastic in this song, more so than in anyo f the other tracks. The rest of the band also does another of their choir bits, which sounds great. The end of the song is the best of it, as Greg sings his final note and trails off whilst the guitars carry on with the incredible riffs until the demise which kind of trails off with the guitars and drums playing single beats and notes. This is a masterful song.

Progress is another of my favourite songs. It starts with a depressing and boring guitar riff. Then it plays its last note and trails off and another great guitar riff comes in, from here you can tell its leading up to something and then comes a drum roll to finish it and Gregs coarse voice starts belting out vocals, randomly singing progress. The band soon joins in with their chorus of progress aswell. The singing keeps getting higher and the song ends abruptly. I Want Something More is a short and sweet number with the whole band playing and singing extremely fast. Its quite hard to keep up with this song but when you start to listen it stops for a couple of seconds then the band goes mooooorrreeeeee and then thats it!

Anxiety isnt particularly good, then again its not terrible. When you listen it seems like youve heard it before until it gets to the middle/end when theres some nice singing and solos.

Billy is just punk rock average. It is quite catchy but at the same time it is a bit boring.

The World Wont Stop Without You is a nice finish to the album. Quick paced with great guitars and singing. The words are pretty funny aswell. It's one to tap your foot along to. It then trails off as the album comes to a close

Overall the album from the one of the bands that started it all off, was good punk rock but it started to decline towards the end which left me bored. Still its worth the money as it's good, old-fashioned home-grown (?) punk!
