Blind Guardian - 'Imaginations from the other side' - By J. Korkiamki
On Imaginations From The Other Side the producer changed from the very efficient Kalle Trapp to the Danish Flemming Rasmussen, who is best known from fixin and mixin Metallicas Master Of Puppets. Unfortunately the presence of the Rasmussen sound isnt quite as positive for Blind Guardians music, in fact theyre quite hollow and distant. The question is: who cares, if the music is the best Blind Guardian heard in a while? Do the average sounds bring bad influence to the material itself? Well, the musical and the artistic sides of the album are GREAT. The tempo of the songs varies once again, from middle tempo ballbusters like "Imaginations From The Other Side" to the double bass drum-style power metal bullet trains as in "Another Holy War" and lyrical/melodic Tolkien/Somewhere Far Beyond style songs like "A Past And Future Secret" and "Bright Eyes", of which the aforementioned is the most definite classic of the album. Overall the sounds dont bother me much, although the songs would be much better with the same variety and the same quality of sounds as was on Somewhere Far Beyond, for example. Also in this form they unite into a clear winner candidate in the race of Blind Guardians best album, an there really isnt anything to complain besides the sounds. Imaginations From The Other Side is a beautiful album and maybe the kind of album you would like to buy from Blind Guardian first. On the other hand, most of the best songs are also on the rarity compilation The Forgotten Tales, although they are acoustic versions, the sounds are better. So if you arent a big fan of muddy sounds and production and are a sucker for alternate versions, you should also check that out, if youd like to hear this albums material.
