Language Of The Mad » Issue 7 -  Icon And St. Anger: What The Fuck? And Cool As Fuck!

So what did everyone think of MTV's Icon on our favorite band of all time? Well this is an opinion column, so heres my opinion: it fucking sucked. I mean really, did anyone think that Avril Lavigne could actually pull of a metallica song without picking the easiest and most mindless of them all? And really, if that wasn´t the crappiest performance from Korn ever, let me fuckin know cause they actually aren´t a bad band. I´m sorry to say that the most interesting show that night other than the kings themselves had to be Snoop Dog's rendition of Sad but True. I guess it just goes to show you where "metal" is heading these days. All I see are a bunch of pussies who through a DJ in their band, grow their hair out (just a side note, Avril... cut your fucking hair!) and bang their heads on stage. Where is the substance? Why don´t any of these people have something to say? I mean really, who gives a fuck if Fred Durst is "rollin" or if Avril's life is "complicated"? There certainly were a few neat things about Metallica´s performance on Icon, most notably the unvieling of the yet unreleased "Frantic."

Now on to better things. St. Anger ripped my fucking balls off and stitched them back on without a drop of anesthetic. The greatest performance on the new album is without that of the great Bob Rock. His production style has totally changed form previous metallica albums. This sets a new standard as far as production goes. leaving in the smallest little mix ups and mistakes just make this album so much more alive. Instead of metallica being an invincible force they seem to be more like everday guys who were just too fuckin sick of making and hearing flawless records.

I will be excited to see what Rob brings to the table for the next album. The entire metallica landscape has just changed my friends. We are about to witness Metallica dominate the world again.

P.S: Emma im sorry I never e-mailed you back, I lost the address. the answer to your question is probably a bass track called "Anesthesia" on Kill 'em All. If that isnt it you may try "Orion" from MOP or "For Whom the Bell Tolls" on RTL. Or maybe the intro to "Damage Inc." on MOP.
