| CVG: Could you maybe use a knife to cut a hole to peak through, or something like that? HK: There will be no knife. But you saw the way the glass shattering in the video yesterday. Well it depends on where you shoot or where the enemy shoots - like if you shoot the bottle here this [the bottle top] will pop, but if you shoot at the bottom the bottle will crash. We're using the Emotion Engine powers of the PlayStation 2 in such aspects. CVG: So all the objects behave like real objects? HK: Yes, like that glass shattering - depending on where you shoot, the cracks will come in different ways, and shatter in a different pattern.~CVG: So, can you use this aspect of the game to find inventive ways of dealing with the enemy? HK: If the steam gets the guy's leg, he won't be able to chase you as quickly because he gets a burned leg. Or if the steam gets the arm, he won't be able to shoot anymore. And that's when you want to use your first-person view mode. You can shoot in first-person view, you cannot move around in first-person view. So if you press a button and choose first-person view, then you can aim so you can aim at a specific spot on a pipe. CVG: Can you topple some bottles, then they can slide on the bottles? HK: It probably won't do that [smiles], but we'll consider it. At the bar counter, you can shoot the booze that you hate, (pinpointing Bacardi.) CVG: How many different ways are there to dispatch enemies in MGS2? HK: It's basically the same - there'll be the strangling, there'll be the punching and kicking, and there'll be weapons. This time, as you saw in the video, there will be a tranquilizer. One thing that's cool is that you can destroy a soldier's radio. If you do that he won't be able to call for other guards to come over. When you see an enemy, it's best to shoot at the radio first. If you make an enemy pass out, you need to drag him and hide him in a locker so the others won't see this fainted guy. CVG: You have announced that part of the new adventure takes place in New York. Have you constructed a famous area or any famous monuments in New York, so they could be destroyed - like in Godzilla when they blow up the Chrysler building? Is this the kind of thing we might see in Metal Gear Solid 2? HK: [nods and smiles at the mention of Godzilla] There will be a few famous monuments that's all we can say. [Imitates a famous New York monument, one hand in the air] She's a famous one. CVG: You have Harry Gregson-Williams doing the soundtrack, and it sounds fantastic. Plus the game already looks better than Hollywood stuff. Will you be trying to make the sound like a Hollywood movie - using all the special effects, surround sound and stuff like that? HK: It's something we're aiming for only in Metal Gear 2 - the Hollywood sound. It's not something I'm going for as part of my whole game constructing style. It's just for Metal Gear 2. CVG: Do you have any online plans? HK: We're considering that. That's all we have to say. |
