| Cradle Of Filth : The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh With just one glance at the cover photo of two lovely women embracing in blood-stained esctacy, I knew that Cradle of Filth's debut album would be an alluring combination of darkness and beauty. Cradle of Filth play a style of music known as black metal, which is an extreme form of heavy metal that leans toward evil and morbidity. Given the extreme nature of the music, many will miss the fact that this band is truly talented. Within a song, the band will veer from an all-out assault of brutal thrash-inspired metal to delicate interplay between intricate guitar riffs and haunting keyboard passages. What will most likely scare away listeners is the vocals of frontman Dani. His voice ranges from a deep "vampiric" croon to a high-pitched demonic wail. This is truly a shame, as the lyrics are complex Gothic verses that any appreciator of vampire-inspired music would enjoy. - review by Jack Shear |
