| Cradle Of Filth : Midian The much anticipated new album from the UK's most famous Black Metal band was appropriately released on Halloween. Like the previous album Cruelty and the Beast, this new disc also follows a concept (and a guest appearance, where Cruelty featured Vampire actress Ingrid Pitt, this album features Doug Bradley aka Pinhead from the Hellraiser films) The story of Midian. This was the world from the novel 'Cabal' by Clive Barker, a 'legendary place which gathered to itself in it's monstrous embrace the half-dead, the 'Nightbreed' The album begins with the now familiar orchestral intro, that is the calm before the storm, the intro fades and all hell breaks loose as the band explode into the first song 'Cthulhu Dawn'. Dani's vocals are as tortured as ever, switching from guttural growls to high pitched squeals. Keyboards and operatic vocals are layered with the high speed guitar, and blast beat drumming. An instant classic! Dani switches vocals to death metal style growls for the intro of 'Lord Abortion', then goes back to his familiar style telling the story of murder, mutilation and more! In Midian, Cradle of Filth have delivered a classic brutal black metal album. Uncompromising, dark, fast, and a million lives away from the current trend in rap-rock music (fortunately). |
