Super 8 ISO Notching Specifications

ANSI/SMPTE 166-1994 for Motion-Picture Film (8-mm type S)- Exposure Control and Stock Identification - Sound and Silent Camera Cartridge Notches

The document specifies a filter notch at the bottom of the cartridge. Absence of the notch removes the Wratten 85 filter. (This assumes the cartridge is loaded with Daylight film.)

Just above the filter notch, and below the locating slot are six seperate notches for film identification (think binary code). (I've never seen these used -- ever.)

Above the locating slot is the film-speed notch. The A dimension is from the CENTER of the locating slot to the TOP of the film speed notch. This dimension is 1.100 inches +/- 0.015 inches.

The X dimension is from the CENTER of the locating slot to the BOTTOM of the film-speed slot.

SMPTE has a website where you can look up and purchase standards on film and television. Yes, they have standards on super-8, too.
