Theodosia the holy virgin-martyr, hailed from the city of Tyre of Phoenicia. During the reign of Maximian (286-305), at seventeen years old, she was made to stand before Urbanus, the governor of Palestine. When questioned, she confessed the faith of Christ. As punishment for her beliefs, she underwent the skinning of her sides and breasts. Afterwards, the idolaters cast her into the sea where she surrendered her soul into the hands of God, and received the crown of martyrdom. [1] The Lives of the Holy Women Martyrs, p. 116. |
