| THIS is what we've been reduced to? I feel absolutely naked when I play this deck, due to the lack of duels. I've been playing relatively competative Crane dueling as a heavy focus for the past few years, and having it ripped away all of a sudden makes me nauseous. The funny thing is, this deck is almost certainly the most defensive deck I've ever played, and I'm a diehard Crane here (Hey, Iron will only get you so far in Gold...DAMN Judgement of Toshiken). Crane got two of the most uber defensive cards I've seen since Flattery and Campsite: Strike and Move and Daidoji Kumi. Strike and Move turns your otherwise relatively useless Courtiers into walking Block Supply Lines. In all actuality, this card is sick. You can realistically defend yourself with nothing but this card and a bunch of courtiers and two Daidoji. This deck relies heavily on ranged attacks, making sort of a defensive version of modern day Mantis decks. Yes, the Crane have handed in their swords for bows. I didn't play Akagi or Gudeta until Kumi came out; two subpar ranged strikes coming from people who would probably die afterward just didn't cut it for me. Hell, I'm all about blowing my guys up for results, but too often it seems like a waste of gold doing so. Besides, a single ranged 4 for 8 gold is pretty meh. Now Kumi, on the other hand, even without the thought of a staggering 3- or 4-consecutive ranged 4s, has the ability to move herself and one other unit out of the battle. This is perfect for a Daidoji. Hell, they say fuck honor, we're getting RESULTS. This means you can fight futile battles simply for the attrition factor. If she had Yu 3 or something I'd be in love. Alas, she has to make do with hit and run. Not running Sanctified Temples is a risky move, but with Mihoko Sensei and a tight gold scheme, it was the only thing to do. A 4-2 holding is expensive with no other abilities, and unless I decided to run 3, with 3 Meditation Chamber, the odds of consisently getting at least two Sancts or Chambers, with the gold and personalities to make use of them, while still buying people normally were staggering. This is also why the deck does not run Noh Theatre Troupe. I dropped Birth of the Sword for Restoring the Doji Treasury because the deck needs a Rich Coffers or two Barly Farms to make use of Tireless Assault, the ultimate surprise card. Kumi makes 3 ranged 4s, goes home, and comes back in to do it again! 6 ranged 4s! Off of one personality and one card! IF I had access to EVERYTHING, this deck would look alot different: |
