I had to work really hard to get Ms. Mary to come to the store and bail me out.  She was in Washington, DC, for a meeting at a hotel not too far from me.  I knew she was there and I waited Friday evening and all day Saturday and Saturday evening and she never showed up.  On Sunday morning I started thinking as hard as I could, "Here I am, Ms. Mary; come and get me."  And, suddenly, there she was in the doorway of the store.  She walked in, looked at me, and said, "I wondered why I took a walk and got lost.  Let's see if we can find our way back to my hotel."  Well, just like that she picked me up, paid my bill, and carried me out of the store.

We had to ask a doorman at a nearby building how to get back to her hotel, which wasn't very far away.  The DC streets don't make a lot of sense to newcomers, and I hadn't been out enough to know my way around.  I didn't care where we went, as long as we went together.

We skipped up to Maryland and picked up James Canterbury before we flew back to California.  It was nice to have company in the carry-on bag during the plane ride.  (James and I rode in the carry-on; Ms. Mary sat on the seat.)
